Keep foam dry and ventilated
Foam should usually be kept dry and well ventilated. Moisture can affect performance, smell and hygiene, especially when foam is used in mattresses, mattress toppers, cushions or upholstery.
If a foam product becomes damp, allow it to dry fully before use where appropriate. Always follow the specific product care instructions.
Use suitable covers
Covers help protect foam from dirt, wear and direct contact. For cushions, mattresses and toppers, a suitable cover can help extend the useful life of the product.
If the product has a removable cover, check whether it can be washed or dry cleaned before cleaning it.
Avoid harsh cleaning
Do not soak foam unless the product instructions say it is suitable. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach or strong solvents, as these can damage foam materials.
For many foam products, cleaning should focus on the cover rather than the foam core.
Store foam properly
Foam should be stored flat where possible, away from sharp edges, heavy loads and direct heat. Long-term compression can affect shape, especially for comfort foams.
Keep foam away from open flames, heaters and unsuitable environments.
Follow product-specific guidance
Different foams have different properties. A mattress topper, packaging foam, closed cell sheet and acoustic foam panel should not all be treated the same way.
