Foam Sheets for Upholstery, Packaging & Acoustics

Foam sheets are used for upholstery, seat and back cushions, headboards, protective packaging, case inserts, acoustic treatment, sealing, lining and specialist industrial projects. The correct grade depends on firmness, density, cell structure, fire performance and the environment in which it will be used.

The best thickness depends on the project. Thin sheets are useful for lining, wrapping and light padding, while thicker sheets are commonly used for cushions and seating. Thickness should be selected together with the foam grade because thickness alone does not determine firmness or support.

No. Foam sheet normally describes flexible materials such as polyurethane, polyethylene or rubber foam. Foam board usually refers to a rigid panel used for insulation, signage or display work. The products on this page are identified by their exact foam material and grade.

All Foam supplies full foam sheets in several standard dimensions, including large upholstery, packaging, closed-cell and acoustic sheet sizes. The exact dimensions available for each grade are shown in its product card and expandable price table.

Prices vary because foam grades use different materials, densities and manufacturing processes. Sheet size, thickness, fire performance and colour can also affect the final price.

Density describes how much foam material is contained within a given volume and is often linked to durability. Firmness describes how resistant the foam feels when compressed. A higher-density foam is not automatically the firmest option, so both properties should be considered.

Seat cushions normally require a supportive upholstery grade selected according to cushion depth, expected use and preferred feel. Medium, high-firm and Reflex grades suit many seating projects, while severe very firm or reconstituted foam may suit thinner, contract or heavy-use applications.

Open-cell polyurethane foam contains interconnected cells and is generally flexible and breathable, making it useful for cushioning and acoustic absorption. Closed-cell foam has a more sealed structure, making it less absorbent and suitable for packing, sealing, lining and water-resistant applications.

No. Fire performance varies by foam grade. Each product card states whether the product is fire retardant, Class 0 or not fire retardant. Check the relevant technical data sheet before ordering for furniture, commercial or regulated applications.

Many flexible foam sheets can be trimmed with a suitable sharp blade, a straight edge and careful measuring. Accurate, repetitive or complex cuts may require professional cutting equipment. Always work safely and choose a method suitable for the material and thickness.

Acoustic foam mainly absorbs reflected sound within a room and can reduce echo, reverberation and flutter echo. It does not create complete sound isolation on its own. Reducing sound transmission normally requires a broader construction using mass, isolation and careful sealing.

Choose upholstery foam sheets for seat cushions, back cushions and general foam padding. Closed cell foam sheets suit sealing, lining and water resistant uses, while Class 0 acoustic foam sheets are intended for sound treatment where the stated fire performance is required.

Class 0 uses the number zero, not the letter O. If a specification says Class O, confirm whether it means Class 0 and check the relevant technical data sheet and stated test information before ordering.

The site-wide checkout promotion is 10% off qualifying orders of £170 or more. AFP30, AFP45 and Ethafoam STPE200 also use quantity pricing with a 5% line discount when the calculated foam-sheet line reaches £150. The basket shows both savings before secure checkout.
