Bespoke foam mattress options

Made to Measure Mattresses and Foam Mattresses Cut to Size

A bespoke foam mattress is cut to your chosen rectangular width and length, then built with the thickness, layer construction and foam grades you select. This made to measure mattress option is practical for non-standard bed frames, day beds, caravans, campervans, motorhomes and boats.

Choose a standard UK size or enter your own measurements for a foam mattress cut to size. Shaped, curved or non-rectangular mattresses require a template and should be discussed with All Foam before ordering.

1

Choose a standard or custom size

Select Single, Double, King Size or Super King, or enter your own rectangular width and length in centimetres.

2

Choose the mattress thickness

Standard sizes use 8, 9 or 10 inches. For a custom rectangular size, enter a whole-inch thickness from 1 to 10 inches alongside the width and length: one layer below 4 inches, up to two layers from 4 to 7 inches, and up to three layers from 8 inches. The base support layer remains the majority, with one permitted balanced 2 inch + 2 inch construction at a total thickness of 4 inches.

3

Choose one to three layers

Use one foam throughout or combine a supportive base with separate middle and comfort layers.

4

Check the complete construction, quantity and qualifying offer price before adding the mattress to your basket.

How the Custom Foam Mattress Calculator Works

Quick answer

The calculator uses current prices from the All Foam foam sheet range and mattress topper range. It adjusts each layer for the selected width, length and thickness, then includes the made-to-order customisation charge in one final price.

Size and thickness

Larger mattress sizes and thicker foam layers use more material, so the price changes when the size, total thickness or layer split changes.

Foam grade

Each grade uses its current catalogue price. Choosing a different support or comfort foam changes only the relevant layer cost.

One complete price

The made-to-order customisation charge is included within the displayed total. It is not added as a separate charge later in the basket.

Foam grade comparison

Compare Foam Grades for a Custom Mattress

Quick answer

Medium gives a more balanced feel, High and Reflex Grey provide firmer support, Severe Very Firm is the firmest grade, Reflex Medium recovers quickly with a medium feel, and memory foam responds more slowly and follows the body more closely.

The base layer provides most of the mattress structure and is kept thicker than all upper layers combined. The only exception is the permitted balanced 2 inch base plus 2 inch comfort layer in a 4 inch mattress. Upper layers change the surface feel and response. Memory foam is available only for the top layer in a two or three layer construction.

Medium Foam

A balanced option for customers who prefer a less firm support feel. It can be selected for a full-depth mattress or used as a base beneath a separate comfort layer.

High Foam

A firmer support foam for customers who prefer a more stable sleeping surface with less give than the Medium grade.

Severe Very Firm Foam

The firmest selectable grade in the builder. Choose this only when a distinctly rigid and very firm foam feel is required.

Reflex Medium Foam

A resilient foam with quicker recovery than memory foam. It provides a responsive medium feel for support or comfort layers.

Reflex Grey Foam

A firmer Reflex option that combines stronger support with a responsive recovery after pressure is removed.

Memory Foam

A foam that responds more slowly to heat and pressure. In the builder, it is available only for the top layer in a two or three layer construction.

Construction rules used by the builder

  • Standard sizes use 8, 9 or 10 inches; custom sizes accept whole-inch thicknesses from 1 to 10 inches.
  • A one-layer mattress uses the full depth as one foam block.
  • Custom mattresses below 4 inches use one layer, 4 to 7 inch mattresses can use one or two layers, and 8 to 10 inch mattresses can use one, two or three layers.
  • Two-layer builds keep the base thicker than the comfort layer, except for the permitted 2 inch + 2 inch split at 4 inches. Three-layer builds keep the base thicker than the middle and top layers combined, with every layer at least 1 inch thick.
  • Memory foam can be selected only for the top layer in a two or three layer construction.
  • Only combinations that total the chosen mattress thickness are available.

Why Choose a Bespoke Foam Mattress?

Quick answer

Choose a bespoke foam mattress when you want control over the support grade, comfort layer, finished thickness and rectangular dimensions. Choose a standard mattress when an established construction already matches your needs, or a topper when the existing mattress remains supportive and only the surface feel needs changing.

A custom mattress may suit you when

  • You already know whether you prefer balanced, firm, very firm or responsive foam.
  • You want to choose the thickness and layer split rather than accept a fixed construction.
  • You want a complete foam mattress rather than an extra layer on an existing mattress.

Important points before ordering

  • Firmness is subjective and thickness alone does not decide how a mattress feels.
  • Memory foam is normally most useful as an upper comfort layer over supportive foam.
  • The mattress must be used on a level, stable and evenly supportive bed base.

Ask the All Foam Team

What is a custom foam mattress?

A custom foam mattress is made to your chosen width, length, thickness and foam construction. Choose a standard UK size or enter your own rectangular measurements for a mattress made to fit the finished space.

Is a foam mattress good or bad?

A foam mattress can be a good choice when the support grade, comfort layers, depth and bed base suit the sleeper. A construction that is too soft, too firm or used on an unsuitable base may feel uncomfortable, so the layer choice matters.

What are the disadvantages of a foam mattress?

The feel can vary significantly by foam grade and thickness. Memory foam responds more slowly and may feel warmer than faster-recovery foams, while a very soft or very firm construction will not suit everyone. Foam also needs a level, supportive bed base.

How long should a foam mattress last?

There is no single lifespan for every foam mattress. Durability depends on foam grade, mattress depth, frequency of use, the supporting bed base and care. All Foam custom mattresses include a 6 year warranty, subject to the warranty terms.

What can I customise on this foam mattress?

You can choose a standard UK mattress size or enter your own rectangular width and length. Standard sizes use an 8, 9 or 10 inch depth, while made to measure sizes accept a whole-inch thickness from 1 to 10 inches. Custom mattresses below 4 inches use one layer, 4 to 7 inch mattresses can use one or two layers, and 8 to 10 inch mattresses can use one, two or three layers.

What mattress depth should I choose?

Standard sizes are available at 8, 9 or 10 inches. For a rectangular custom size, enter any whole-inch thickness from 1 to 10 inches. Thickness alone does not decide firmness because the selected foam grades and layer construction also change the feel.

How many foam layers can I choose?

Custom mattresses below 4 inches use one foam layer. From 4 to 7 inches, you can choose one or two layers. At 8, 9 or 10 inches, you can choose one, two or three layers. Every active layer is at least 1 inch. The base support layer is thicker than the upper layers combined, except for the permitted balanced 2 inch base plus 2 inch comfort layer in a 4 inch mattress.

Which foam should I choose for the base layer?

Medium foam provides a more balanced feel, High foam gives firmer support, Severe Very Firm is the firmest option, and Reflex grades provide faster recovery. Memory foam is available only for the top layer in a two or three layer construction.

How is the custom mattress price calculated?

The price is calculated from current All Foam foam prices, the selected width and length, the thickness of every active layer and the customisation charge. Standard-size configurations include a fitted cover automatically, while custom rectangular mattresses are supplied without a made-to-measure cover.

Can I order the custom foam mattress online?

Yes. Once the configuration and price are shown, choose a quantity, add the mattress to your All Foam basket and continue through the same secure checkout used for other products.

How long does a custom mattress take to dispatch?

Custom mattresses are normally dispatched within 2 working days. Delivery begins after dispatch and depends on the selected delivery service and destination.

Can I order a foam mattress cut to size?

Yes. Enter your own rectangular width and length to order a foam mattress cut to size, then choose the finished thickness and foam construction. Shaped, curved or non-rectangular mattresses require a template, so contact All Foam before ordering.

How do I order a custom mattress size in the UK?

Select the custom rectangular size in the online builder, enter the finished width and length in centimetres, then choose the thickness and foam construction. For shaped or non-rectangular mattresses, contact All Foam because a template is required.

Is a custom foam mattress the same as a mattress topper?

No. A custom foam mattress is a complete layered sleeping surface. A mattress topper is a separate comfort layer placed on an existing mattress and cannot replace a damaged or unsupported mattress core.

Can I use a custom foam mattress on a slatted bed base?

A slatted base may be suitable when it is level, stable and provides even support with gaps that are not too wide. Check the bed-base condition and measurements before ordering.
