Class 0 acoustic foam sheets can be relevant to restaurants, cafes, hotel lounges and other hospitality spaces where the project needs acoustic absorption together with documented fire performance. The All Foam AFPCLS0 technical data sheet lists these types of commercial and public-building environments among its typical applications, but the foam still has to be selected as part of the complete room specification rather than treated as a universal cure for noise.
Why hospitality spaces can become acoustically difficult
Modern hospitality interiors often use hard finishes because they are durable, cleanable and visually simple. Glass, plaster, tile, timber, stone, metal and large areas of hard flooring can all reflect sound back into the room.
In a busy restaurant or cafe, many sound sources operate at the same time. Conversations overlap with cutlery, plates, coffee machines, music, bar equipment and movement through the space. In a hotel lounge, the problem may be less intense but still noticeable when a large open room has limited soft furnishing.
The result can be excessive reverberation. Sound remains in the room for longer, so one conversation adds to another rather than decaying quickly. This can make speech less clear and can encourage people to raise their voices, which adds more sound to the space.
Acoustic treatment is intended to reduce reflected sound inside the room. It should not be confused with structural soundproofing between rooms. If the problem is music travelling into a bedroom above a bar, for example, the project may also need mass, isolation, sealing and building work. Why Class 0 may be specified in a hospitality project
The All Foam AFPCLS0 sheet is an open-cell acoustic and thermal polyurethane foam manufactured with impregnated fire-retardant compounds. Its current technical data sheet states UK Building Regulations Class 0 to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, together with Class 1 surface spread of flame under BS 476 Part 7 and additional UL94 information.
Those are product properties. They do not prove that a finished restaurant, hotel, ceiling, wall or decorative assembly complies with a particular project requirement.
Where a designer, landlord, main contractor, fire consultant or specification names a fire classification, compare that requirement with the current data sheet for the exact material. Do not choose Class 0 simply because the venue is public facing, and do not assume that any product described generally as fire retardant provides the same documented result.

Start with the acoustic problem, not the foam quantity
Before ordering sheets, identify what the room is doing badly.
Walk through the venue at quiet and busy times if possible. Listen for:
- speech that becomes difficult to follow as the room fills
- strong reflections from large bare walls
- long reverberation after a sharp sound
- hard ceilings that contribute to a lively room
- areas where music becomes harsh or unclear
- particular zones that are noticeably louder than others
A large restaurant may not need identical treatment everywhere. A low-ceiling dining area, double-height entrance and bar zone can behave differently even when they are connected.
Professional acoustic design may use measurements and calculations to determine the treatment area and position. All Foam does not recommend a universal percentage of wall or ceiling coverage because room size, geometry, finishes, occupancy and target performance vary too much.
Flat Class 0 sheets in restaurants and cafes
The current All Foam AFPCLS0 product is supplied as flat sheets in 100cm x 100cm and 200cm x 100cm sizes. Available thicknesses are 6mm, 12mm, 25mm and 50mm, supplied as unbacked flat sheets.
Choosing thickness for a hospitality installation
Thickness influences how an acoustic absorber behaves, but thickness alone does not tell you the final room result.
Use the four AFPCLS0 thicknesses as design options rather than a ranking from basic to premium:
- 6mm: useful where treatment depth is tightly limited and the design specifically allows a thin layer
- 12mm: provides more material depth while remaining relatively slim
- 25mm: a common practical depth for many flat acoustic treatment layouts where space permits
- 50mm: provides the greatest depth in the current online range where the design and available space support it
These are not guaranteed performance bands. The correct choice should follow the complete acoustic and fire specification.
Wall treatment needs practical planning
Restaurant wall space is rarely empty. Artwork, mirrors, menu boards, doors, radiators, switches, sockets and furniture all affect what can be treated.
Before fixing foam, mark the usable wall areas and check whether chairs, trolleys or customers can regularly contact the material. A location that is acoustically convenient may be poor if it is constantly rubbed, knocked or exposed to cleaning chemicals.
In customer-facing areas, appearance matters as well. Raw acoustic foam is a functional material. If the interior design requires a decorative finish, the complete facing or enclosure has to be assessed rather than assuming any added fabric, coating or covering preserves the original fire or acoustic properties.
Do not paint the foam unless the complete treatment has been designed and approved for that purpose. Filling the open-cell surface can change its acoustic behaviour and an added coating can affect other properties.
Ceiling locations need a specified fixing method
Ceilings can offer useful treatment area in restaurants because the floor and lower wall space are often occupied. However, ceiling fixing introduces additional safety considerations.
Check the substrate, product weight, fixing method, access requirements and the requirements of the complete ceiling system. Do not rely on a general bonding method as a substitute for a properly specified overhead fixing arrangement where mechanical support or another approved method is required.
Keep foam clear of lights, sprinklers, detectors, vents and other services unless the project design specifically addresses them. Never obstruct fire safety or ventilation equipment.
Planning the fixing method
The current sheet can be ordered either way.
The current AFPCLS0 sheets are supplied unbacked, giving the installer freedom to use a separately specified fixing method or integrate the sheet into another approved construction.

Restaurants with open kitchens need separate thinking
An open kitchen adds equipment noise, hard washable surfaces, extraction and heat. Acoustic treatment placed in or near kitchen and food preparation zones may also face grease, moisture, cleaning regimes and hygiene requirements that are different from a dining area.
Do not assume an AFPCLS0 sheet suitable for the dining room is automatically suitable next to cooking equipment or inside an extraction system. Check temperature, contamination, cleaning, airflow and all relevant equipment or hygiene requirements before specifying foam in those areas.
The technical data sheet lists a working temperature range for the material, but that value does not override the design requirements of a kitchen appliance, duct, fire system or finished building assembly.
Hotels can have several different acoustic zones
A hotel lobby, lounge, conference room, corridor and bedroom all have different uses. Class 0 acoustic foam may be relevant in suitable communal or commercial treatment areas, but one product layout should not be copied from room to room without checking the design.
Keep the fire documentation with the project
If the foam has been selected because of its stated fire performance, retain the current All Foam data sheet with the order and installation records.

- Treating acoustic foam as complete soundproofing between rooms.
- Ordering a sheet thickness before the room treatment has been planned.
- Covering sprinklers, vents, detectors or access points.
- Assuming every public building automatically requires the same foam specification.
- Adding fabric, paint or other finishes without checking the complete assembly.
- Installing foam where customers, chairs or cleaning equipment will repeatedly damage it.
- Using a bonding system on a dirty, unstable or unsuitable substrate.

Can Class 0 acoustic foam reduce restaurant echo?
It can be used as absorptive treatment to help control reflected sound and reverberation where the product and layout suit the acoustic design. It is not a guaranteed cure based only on adding a certain number of sheets.
Does a restaurant have to use Class 0 acoustic foam?
Not automatically. Use the fire and material specification required by the actual project. If a document names a classification, compare it with the technical data for the exact product.
Can I put Class 0 foam on a restaurant ceiling?
Potentially, where the ceiling system, fixing method and project specification allow it. Do not obstruct lighting, sprinklers, detectors, ventilation or access, and use a fixing method suitable for overhead installation.
Is Class 0 foam suitable behind decorative fabric?
Do not assume so without checking the complete construction. A covering can change acoustic behaviour and may affect the fire performance or approval of the finished assembly.
Can Class 0 acoustic foam stop music reaching hotel bedrooms?
Acoustic foam mainly controls reflections within the treated room. Stopping transmission to another room normally requires a wider sound-isolation design using suitable walls, floors, ceilings, doors, seals and junction details.
